What composers say

Barbara Pritchard is the ultimate composer's pianist. Her appetite for new music is voracious and she brings to it impeccably sensitive, yet powerful technique along with a depth of understanding." |
Barbara Pritchard is a first-class pianist who really enjoys new music. Her recital of a cross-section of solo works by Barbara Pentland, now available as a CD, was a brilliant revelation of an exceptionally varied and imaginative repertoire. On several occasions when she has tackled music by me, I was deeply impressed: these were not just run-of-the-mill readings but solid interpretations that brought the music to life in splendid detail.

Barbara! You surprise and delight with musical outcomes which more than validate each composer's intents: You sensitively confront their respective compositional poetries. Results, at your characteristically high standard, are benchmark performances -- -always offered with an engaging lack of affective tepidity.
Thank you, as well, for exemplary collaboration at Canadian compositional workshops; and for assisting so pro-actively within composition students' (honours-thesis) recitals: these, too, Barbara, must not go untallied, unsung. |

Barbara Pritchard has performed my music many times over more than 20 years. Her performances are always definitive, both in terms of the technical aspects of the works, but more importantly, in bringing across to an audience, the spirit and intention of the music. A composer could not ask for a better interpreter and collaborator. |

Having been fortunate enough to have heard numerous performances of my piano pieces by Barbara Pritchard, I remain in constant admiration and appreciation of her ability to get ‘inside’ the music. She brings to each performance a deep understanding of my contrapuntal and textural layering, with her ability to bring emphasis to different points within a single line; something which is difficult to notate but very enjoyable to hear when the performer ‘gets’ it. Tempi and rhythm are invariably perfect in the hands of this wonderful musician who has done so much to promote the music of Atlantic Canadian composers. |
Barbara transforms the black notes on the page into truly transcendent musical experiences that go straight to the heart. |
